Summary
This study looked at whether intensive treatment for gum disease (periodontitis) could slow or prevent dementia in older adults who already have mild cognitive impairment and narrowing of the carotid artery. The goal was to see if improving oral health could reduce inflammation and protect brain function. The study was terminated early, so results are limited.
