New combo therapy aims to wipe out early anal cancer without surgery

Summary

This study tests whether adding the immunotherapy drug pembrolizumab to standard chemotherapy and radiation can completely eliminate early-stage anal cancer. About 23 adults with stage I to IIIA anal cancer will receive weekly chemo and radiation plus pembrolizumab, followed by maintenance pembrolizumab. The main goal is to see if the cancer fully disappears after treatment, while also monitoring side effects.
