New combo therapy aims to wipe out early anal cancer without surgery

Summary
This study tests whether adding the immunotherapy drug pembrolizumab to standard chemotherapy (carboplatin and paclitaxel) and radiation can completely eliminate early-stage anal cancer. About 23 adults with stage I to IIIA anal cancer will receive weekly chemo-immunotherapy plus radiation, followed by maintenance pembrolizumab. The main goal is to see how many patients have no cancer detectable after treatment.
