Summary

This study tested whether training older high school students as peer mentors could help younger teens become more physically active. Over 500 students from Appalachian high schools took part, comparing a peer-mentored program to a teacher-led one. The goal was to see if the mentoring approach led to better weight and activity outcomes.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
peer mentoring program
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that training older teens to mentor younger ones is an effective way to increase physical activity and improve health in high school students.
What could go wrong
This is a completed behavioral study, not a drug trial. Results may not apply to other regions or age groups, and the effect on weight and activity may be modest.
