Doctors probe hidden link between breathing machines and organ stress

NCT ID NCT07452952

Summary

This study aims to understand how different pressure settings on a mechanical ventilator affect blood flow congestion in the body's veins for patients with severe lung failure (ARDS). Researchers will observe 30 critically ill patients, using ultrasound scans to measure congestion in liver and kidney veins at two different pressure levels. The goal is to gather knowledge that may help doctors better manage ventilator settings to protect other organs.
