Surgery vs. standard care: can removing part of the parathyroid gland boost bone health after kidney transplant?

NCT ID NCT07415421

First seen Feb 19, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 9 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a surgery called subtotal parathyroidectomy can improve bone density, physical function, and quality of life in people who still have high calcium or low phosphate levels after a kidney transplant. About 85 adults who had a kidney transplant at least 6 months ago will be randomly assigned to either have the surgery or continue with standard medical care. The main goal is to see if surgery leads to better bone health over 12 months.
