Could a shorter antibiotic course after whipple surgery cut hospital stays?
NCT ID NCT04329039
First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 26 times
Summary
This study compares two approaches to prevent pancreatic leaks after Whipple surgery: a short course of antibiotics plus a drug that reduces pancreatic secretions (octreotide) versus a longer course of antibiotics alone. About 103 adults at intermediate-to-high risk for leaks will take part. The goal is to see if the shorter treatment reduces hospital stays and complications.
