New drain test may spot pancreatic leaks faster
NCT ID NCT02784990
First seen Feb 06, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 13 times
Summary
This study looked at 770 adults who had pancreas surgery to see if measuring a different enzyme (lipase) in surgical drains could better detect a common complication called pancreatic fistula. Currently, doctors use the enzyme amylase, but it can be misleading. The goal was to find a more accurate early marker to prevent serious infections or bleeding. Participants provided blood and drain fluid samples at several time points after surgery.
