New combo aims to extend pain relief after back surgery

NCT ID NCT07573969

First seen May 14, 2026 · Last updated May 17, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether adding dexmedetomidine or ketamine to a standard numbing medicine (bupivacaine) can provide longer pain relief after lower back surgery. About 72 adults scheduled for lumbosacral surgery will receive one of the two combinations during a guided injection. The goal is to see which approach reduces the need for extra painkillers and improves recovery.
