New drug cocktail aims to stop chronic pain after back surgery

Summary
This study tests whether giving a combination of two medicines (dexmedetomidine and esketamine) before and after spinal surgery can lower the chance of long-term pain. About 274 adults aged 40 to 79 having spine surgery will take part. The goal is to see if this drug pair works better than usual care at preventing pain that lasts 3 months or more.
