Summary
This completed phase 3 trial tested whether adding dexmedetomidine or ketamine to the standard numbing drug bupivacaine improves pain control after hernia repair. Sixty adults having unilateral inguinal hernioplasty received one of three injections into the abdominal wall just before waking up. Researchers measured pain scores at rest and with coughing over 12 hours after surgery.
