New pain block may reduce confusion after back surgery

Summary

This study tested two different methods of pain control during back surgery: a nerve block (erector spinae plane block) and a large injection of numbing medicine into the surgical area. 29 adults having 1-2 level lower back fusion surgery took part. The goal was to see which method better reduces pain, inflammation, and confusion after surgery.
