Pain's hidden toll: study reveals how discomfort disrupts walking memory in seniors

NCT ID NCT07054840

First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study looks at how short-term pain, created using a capsaicin heat patch, affects the ability of older adults (ages 55-90) to learn and remember a new walking pattern on a split-belt treadmill. Researchers will measure how well participants adapt their steps and how much they remember the next day. The goal is to understand the link between pain and motor learning, not to test a treatment.
