New pacemaker approach could reduce heart failure risk
NCT ID NCT05815745
First seen Jan 06, 2026 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 30 times
Summary
This study compares two pacemaker methods for people with a slow heart rate: standard right ventricular pacing and a newer 'physiological pacing' that targets the heart's natural conduction system. Researchers will track 2,600 participants over time to see which method better prevents death and heart failure. The goal is to find a safer long-term pacing option.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Pacemaker (physiological pacing or right ventricular pacing)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that physiological pacing reduces the risk of death and heart failure compared to standard pacing.
What could go wrong
This is a large trial, but results may not apply to all patients. The new pacing method is more complex and may have higher risks during implantation.
Conditions
The condition(s) this trial relates to.
As listed by the trial registrant
The condition terms exactly as the trial's registrant entered them.
