Surgery vs. blood tests: finding the best defense against inherited ovarian cancer

NCT ID NCT00043472

Summary

This study looked at two ways to help women with a strong family history or genetic risk of ovarian cancer. One group chose to have their ovaries and fallopian tubes removed as a preventive surgery. The other group chose intensive monitoring with frequent blood tests and ultrasounds. Researchers followed both groups to see which approach was better at preventing cancer and how each choice affected the women's quality of life.
