Fat cell secrets may explain bone loss

NCT ID NCT04377880

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study looked at how fat cells in bone marrow might contribute to bone loss in osteoporosis. Researchers took bone samples from 20 adults during hip replacement surgery and grew bone-forming cells in the lab. They then exposed these cells to substances released by fat cells to see how the bone cells changed. The goal was to better understand the link between fat cell activity and osteoporosis severity.
