Simple Pre-Surgery quiz may spot delirium risk in older adults
NCT ID NCT06869876
First seen Nov 17, 2025 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 28 times
Summary
This completed pilot study in the Czech Republic looked at whether simple memory and thinking tests given before hip replacement surgery can help predict who might develop postoperative delirium—a state of sudden confusion after an operation. Researchers tested 75 older adults using two short cognitive assessments and then checked for delirium after surgery. The goal was to see if lower test scores were linked to a higher chance of confusion, which could help doctors identify at-risk patients earlier.
