Scientists measure exact moment blockages trigger angina

NCT ID NCT07386418

First seen Feb 04, 2026 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study, called ORBITA-SOLAR, aims to find out if different narrowed arteries in the heart cause chest pain (angina) at different levels of blood flow reduction. Sixty people with stable angina who need stents will have a tiny balloon inflated inside each stent while they exercise on a bike. The researchers will measure the exact point when chest pain starts, to see if the threshold varies by location. This is an observational study, not a treatment trial.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help doctors better understand which blockages cause symptoms and guide more targeted treatments for stable angina.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage observational study (60 people) that measures symptoms in a controlled lab setting. Results may not apply to all patients or change current treatment.

Conditions

The condition(s) this trial relates to.

Angina Pectoris Angina, Stable coronary artery disorder myocardial ischemia
