Diabetes drug trial aims to slow Alzheimer's by protecting brain connections

NCT ID NCT07200622

Summary

This study is testing whether a pill called oral semaglutide, currently used for diabetes, is safe and might help slow down Alzheimer's disease. Researchers will give the drug to 60 people with mild Alzheimer's for one year to see if it protects the brain's communication points (synapses) from damage. The main goal is to check for side effects, while a secondary goal uses brain scans to see if the drug helps preserve these vital connections.
