Spinning tool could save limbs: new study targets hardened arteries

NCT ID NCT07270562

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study will follow 250 people with severe leg artery disease (chronic limb-threatening ischemia) to see how well a procedure called orbital atherectomy works in real life. The procedure uses a tiny spinning device to grind away hard calcium inside the artery, making it easier to open the vessel with balloons or stents. The goal is to improve blood flow and reduce the risk of amputation.
