New scoring system aims to fix antibiotic errors in allergic patients

NCT ID NCT07342647

First seen Jan 18, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study looks at how to better choose antibiotics for people who say they are allergic to beta-lactam drugs (like penicillin) before orthopedic surgery. Many people think they are allergic, but only a few actually are. Researchers will use a simple questionnaire called the PEN FAST score to help doctors pick the right antibiotic. The goal is to see if this tool leads to more correct prescriptions and fewer mistakes.
