New balloon coating may keep urinary passages open longer

NCT ID NCT06795074

First seen Jan 17, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study compares a paclitaxel-coated balloon (Optilume) to a standard balloon for treating recurrent urethral stricture, a narrowing of the urine tube. About 230 adults who have had at least one prior treatment will be randomly assigned to one of the two balloons. The goal is to see if the drug coating helps prevent the stricture from returning within 18 months, potentially reducing the need for more procedures or surgery.
