Eye ultrasound tracks brain pressure during keyhole surgery

NCT ID NCT06209034

First seen Dec 08, 2025 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study looked at whether a simple eye ultrasound could detect changes in brain pressure during laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery. 55 adults having laparoscopic surgery had their optic nerve sheath diameter measured with ultrasound during the procedure. The goal was to see if this non-invasive method could reliably track pressure changes caused by the carbon dioxide gas used in these surgeries.
