New hope for HIV patients struggling with alcohol: repurposed drug shows promise

Summary

This study tests whether a medication normally used for other conditions can help people with HIV reduce their alcohol use. Thirty participants who have HIV, smoke, and drink heavily will receive the medication along with counseling. The goal is to see if this approach is practical, safe, and works for this group.
