Sniffing out cancer: new breath test could spot colon cancer before it spreads

NCT ID NCT07620743

First seen Jun 06, 2026 · Last updated Jun 18, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tests a new, non-invasive method to detect colorectal cancer and precancerous growths by analyzing odors from breath and intestinal gas. About 453 participants—including people with colorectal cancer, precancerous lesions, and healthy volunteers—will provide samples and allow researchers to compare the odor test results with standard colonoscopy findings. The goal is to see if this simple, painless test can catch the disease early, potentially replacing more invasive procedures.
