New hope for advanced colon cancer: immunotherapy shrinks tumors in some patients

Summary

This study tested a drug called nivolumab, alone or with other cancer drugs, in 385 people whose colon cancer had returned or spread. The goal was to see if the treatment could shrink tumors in patients whose cancers have a specific genetic feature (MSI-H). The approach uses the body's immune system to fight the cancer, but it is not a cure and ongoing management is needed.
