New light technology could spot Limb-Threatening condition faster

NCT ID NCT05672381

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 30 times

Summary

This study tested whether a special camera using near-infrared light and a dye called ICG can help doctors diagnose acute compartment syndrome—a dangerous condition where swelling cuts off blood flow to muscles after a serious injury. Researchers observed 15 adults with suspected compartment syndrome in the leg or forearm. The goal was to see if changes in oxygen and blood flow signals could identify at-risk muscle tissue early.
