Early sickle cell care for newborns could save lives in ivory coast

NCT ID NCT07488520

First seen Mar 30, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 15 times

Summary

This study will test whether screening newborns for sickle cell disease using a simple point-of-care test and starting comprehensive care early can reduce serious health problems and deaths. About 120 babies aged 0-6 months in Yopougon, Côte d'Ivoire, will be screened and, if positive, receive standard treatments like antibiotics, vaccines, and hydroxyurea. The results will be compared to past data to see if this approach improves outcomes.
