New skin test could help babies in pain

NCT ID NCT07561047

First seen May 02, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study looks at a new way to measure pain in newborns after surgery using a skin monitor. Since babies can't tell us they're in pain, doctors currently use checklists and vital signs. The skin monitor tracks stress signals continuously and may be more accurate. About 100 babies in the NICU will take part, and researchers will also see if skin-to-skin contact helps with pain.
