Electric ear stimulation may tame deadly sepsis inflammation
NCT ID NCT03992378
First seen Apr 02, 2026 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study tests whether a gentle electrical pulse to the ear (transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation) can reduce harmful inflammation and improve heart rate balance in people with septic shock. About 34 participants will receive either active or sham stimulation for 4 hours alongside standard care. The goal is to gather early data to design a larger trial, not to prove a treatment yet.
