Which nerve block works best for thigh bone surgery pain?
NCT ID NCT06990958
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compared two types of nerve blocks—Erector Spinae Plane Block and Fascia Iliaca Compartment Block—for pain relief in adults after femur (thigh bone) surgery. 92 patients received one of the two blocks before surgery. Researchers measured how long pain relief lasted and how much extra pain medication was needed. The goal is to find which block provides better pain control and reduces opioid use.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- nerve block (Erector Spinae Plane Block or Fascia Iliaca Compartment Block)
- What this could lead to
- If this study shows one block is better, it could help doctors choose the most effective pain relief method for femur surgery patients.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, completed study with 92 participants. Results may not apply to all patients or surgeries, and individual responses to nerve blocks can vary.
