New combo therapy aims to boost survival in head and neck cancer

Summary
This phase II trial tests whether adding chemotherapy or chemo-immunotherapy before standard salvage surgery helps patients with recurrent or persistent head and neck cancer. About 180 participants with PD-L1 positive tumors will receive either carboplatin and paclitaxel, or those drugs plus cemiplimab, followed by surgery and possibly radiation. The goal is to see if these combinations improve the time patients live without the cancer coming back.
