New study tests wound vacuum to prevent infections after breast cancer surgery

Summary
This study tests whether a negative pressure wound therapy (a special vacuum dressing) can reduce complications like infection, wound reopening, and slow healing after complex breast cancer surgery with immediate reconstruction. About 254 women at higher risk for scarring problems (e.g., obesity, smoking, large breasts) will be randomly assigned to get either the vacuum dressing or standard care. The main goal is to see if fewer women have wound problems within 30 days after surgery.
