First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 12 times
Summary
This study looks at how mitochondria (the energy factories in cells) work in the liver of people who have both type 2 diabetes and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Researchers will measure liver energy use before and after 16 weeks of treatment with the diabetes drug pioglitazone. About 60 adults aged 18-80 with stable blood sugar and body weight will take part. The goal is to understand how the drug affects liver metabolism, not to test a new cure.
