Antioxidant tested to shield patients from Chemo's painful side effect

NCT ID NCT07391163

Summary

This study tested whether a common antioxidant supplement, N-Acetylcysteine (NAC), could protect against nerve damage (peripheral neuropathy) caused by a standard colon cancer chemotherapy drug, oxaliplatin. Forty-six adult patients with colorectal cancer were randomly assigned to receive either NAC alongside their chemotherapy or chemotherapy alone. Researchers measured the severity of nerve pain, numbness, and tingling to see if NAC made a difference.
