Summary
This study looked at whether a left stellate ganglion block (a nerve block in the neck) given before mitral valve replacement surgery can protect the heart muscle from injury. 62 adults having elective on-pump mitral valve replacement were included. Researchers checked heart tissue samples for damage and monitored heart function and arrhythmias after surgery.
