Sound waves take aim at breast cancer: new device tested before surgery

NCT ID NCT05291507

First seen Nov 21, 2025 · Last updated Jun 13, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This early-phase study tests a new device that uses focused ultrasound waves guided by MRI to partially destroy breast tumors in 34 women with breast cancer. The goal is to see if the procedure is safe and feasible before standard surgical removal. Participants will have half or less of one tumor treated with the device, then undergo their planned surgery within six weeks. The study measures side effects, pain, and how well the ablation works.
