MRI-Targeted biopsies outperform standard method in prostate cancer detection

NCT ID NCT02485379

First seen Dec 26, 2025 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study tested whether using MRI to guide prostate biopsies finds more aggressive cancers than the usual method of taking random samples. 275 men with suspected prostate cancer each received both standard and MRI-targeted biopsies. The goal was to see if the MRI approach detects more high-grade (Gleason 7 or higher) cancers, potentially reducing missed diagnoses and unnecessary treatments.
