New freezing technique targets returning prostate cancer

NCT ID NCT01727284

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 32 times

Summary

This study tests whether MR-guided cryoablation—a technique that freezes and destroys cancer tissue—can safely treat prostate tumors that have come back after initial therapy. About 107 participants with biopsy-confirmed soft tissue recurrences in the prostate bed will be followed for up to 3 years to see if the frozen tumors are eliminated. The approach is for patients who cannot have surgery or whose radiation therapy has failed.
