A simple conversation could change how heart failure patients care for themselves
NCT ID NCT07721909
First seen Jul 23, 2026 · Last updated Jul 24, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This pilot trial tests whether nurse-led motivational interviewing — a counseling style that strengthens a person's own motivation to change — can help adults with heart failure improve self-care behaviors like diet, medication adherence, and symptom monitoring. Participants in Oman will receive either standard care or the motivational interviewing sessions plus telephone follow-up. The study measures changes in self-care and symptom burden over time.

- What this could lead to
- If effective, this approach could offer a low-cost way to help heart failure patients better manage their condition at home.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small pilot study with only 60 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The intervention relies on patient engagement, which can vary.
