Summary

This pilot trial tests whether nurse-led motivational interviewing — a counseling style that strengthens a person's own motivation to change — can help adults with heart failure improve self-care behaviors like diet, medication adherence, and symptom monitoring. Participants in Oman will receive either standard care or the motivational interviewing sessions plus telephone follow-up. The study measures changes in self-care and symptom burden over time.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
nurse-led motivational interviewing with telephonic follow-up
What this could lead to
If effective, this approach could offer a low-cost way to help heart failure patients better manage their condition at home.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study with only 60 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The intervention relies on patient engagement, which can vary.
