Inclusion Criteria: * Pregnant women \>=18 years, accessing hospital for the first scheduled ultrasound scan at 11-13 weeks of gestation and who express the intention of giving birth in the recruiting hospital Exclusion Criteria: * gestational age at enrollment \> 15 weeks * preexisting type 1 diabetes * multiple pregnancy * insufficient knowledge of the Italian language.
