Mind over muscle: motivation may enhance mental strength training

NCT ID NCT07155655

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 31 times

Summary

This pilot study tested whether adding motivation to mental imagery or action observation could improve lower back strength in healthy adults. Forty participants were split into four groups: some did mental imagery, some watched actions, and half of each group also received extra motivation. Strength was measured before, during, and after the four-week program. The goal was to see if motivation makes mental practice more effective for building strength.
