First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 22 times
Summary
This study looked at whether problems with tiny energy factories inside cells (mitochondria) contribute to higher blood pressure and worse blood vessel health in Black adults. Researchers gave 31 middle-aged and older adults a supplement called MitoQ or a placebo for 8 weeks. The goal was to see if MitoQ could reduce oxidative stress and improve blood vessel function, and to understand how social factors like income and discrimination play a role.
