Summary
This study tested whether giving the antidepressant mirtazapine before and after mastectomy surgery can lower pain and the need for strong painkillers like morphine. Sixty-two women scheduled for mastectomy took part. Researchers measured pain levels and morphine use in the first 24 hours, as well as longer-term nerve pain and recovery quality.
