First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 20 times
Summary
This study tested whether treating donated blood with a special technology (Mirasol) can prevent infections like malaria, HIV, and hepatitis from being passed to patients during a transfusion. About 2000 people who needed a blood transfusion took part. The researchers compared those who received treated blood to those who received standard blood to see if the treatment lowered infection rates.
