Summary
This study tested a special light-based treatment for donated blood to see if it could prevent infections like malaria, HIV, and hepatitis from spreading through transfusions. About 2000 people who needed a blood transfusion took part. The treated blood was compared to standard blood to check if it reduced new infections.
