First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 18 times

Summary

This study tested whether treating donated blood with a special technology (Mirasol) can prevent infections like malaria, HIV, and hepatitis from being passed to patients during a transfusion. About 2000 people who needed a blood transfusion took part. The goal was to see if the treated blood led to fewer new infections compared to standard blood.
