Old antibiotic, new hope: could minocycline tame resistant high blood pressure?

NCT ID NCT02133872

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 29 times

Summary

This study tested whether minocycline, an inexpensive antibiotic already approved for other uses, can lower blood pressure in people whose hypertension does not respond to standard medications. Researchers enrolled 34 adults with resistant hypertension and gave them different doses of minocycline to see if it reduced their daytime blood pressure. The goal was to find a new, drug-based option for a condition that often requires invasive procedures.
