Can a smartphone app help cancer survivors kick the habit?
NCT ID NCT06476548
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This completed Phase 1 trial tested a smartphone app that uses mindfulness exercises to help cancer survivors quit smoking. Twelve participants used the app daily for three weeks, completed surveys, and received nicotine patches. The goal was to see if people liked the app and found it helpful, not to measure quit rates.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- mindfulness-based smartphone app plus nicotine patches
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could point toward a practical, app-based tool to help cancer survivors quit smoking.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very early, small Phase 1 trial with only 12 participants, focused on feedback and feasibility, not on proving the app helps people quit. The results may not apply to all cancer survivors.
