NCT ID NCT05847153

First seen Mar 21, 2026 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 18 times

Summary

This study tested a virtual program called MASC (Mindful and Self-Compassionate Care) for caregivers of people with Alzheimer's or related dementias. The program taught mindfulness, self-compassion, and behavioral management skills through six online group sessions and home practice. The goal was to see if the program was feasible and acceptable to caregivers, not yet to measure its effectiveness. Only 13 caregivers participated, making this a very early-stage study.

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a practical, low-cost way to reduce stress and improve well-being for caregivers of people with Alzheimer's.

What could go wrong

This is a very small, early feasibility study with only 13 participants. It was not designed to prove the program works, only that it can be delivered and studied. Results may not apply to all caregivers.
